What Is a House Manager/Nanny?
A House Manager/Nanny combines childcare with household management or family assistant duties. Common Responsibilities of House Manager/Nannies in Oregon, WI
Duties often include meal planning and grocery shopping, laundry, organizing the home, running errands, scheduling appointments and activities, and coordinating with other household staff, on top of childcare. The balance between childcare and household tasks varies from one family to another.
What to Consider Before You Hire
Be specific about how the time is split between childcare and household work, and put it in a job description. Roles that combine duties may be paid at a higher rate, and they call for more experience. Make sure expectations about housekeeping, such as deep cleaning, are clear from the start.
House Manager/Nanny Interview Questions
Once you find a promising candidate, invite them for an interview to see if they would be a great fit for your family. Here are some questions you can ask:
- Have you worked as a nanny and as a household manager or family assistant?
- What household tasks are you comfortable managing?
- How do you organize schedules, errands, and appointments?
- Have you supervised other staff, such as cleaners or contractors?
- How do you balance the children's needs with household tasks?
At this stage, request their references and ask their references some questions. After preparing the job offer or contract, we recommend that you run a background check before the start date.
