Kayla B.
Derby$14.28/hr  |  < 1 yr experience
I've been watching children since I was a kid, from family members to friends children to those who found me by word of mouth; and every family has provided me with a new experience that has gotten me to the confidence and skill level I am at now. I am a mother of an amazing and beautiful 11 month old girl but before I was blessed with her I nannied for a family with 2 and 4 year old girls. I was also an instructional assistant at a school for children with neurological disorders where I work with a 6 yr old girl with a feeding tube, helping her with her functions of daily living, sensory needs, advancement in academic skills as well as with a 12 yr old boy with behavioral problems in an after school program taking him out into the community and interacting with society along with providing services to the other students when needed. I spent over 7 months as a nanny for a 2 yr old girl with special needs (motor impairments and developmental delays) where I spent the day caring for, using her g-tube (GI complications) to feed her, around the clock care, participation in therapy sessions (Speech, Physical, Occupational, Teacher), and carry-over of tasks. Advancing skills, I.e going from "creeping crawl" to full crawl almost walking, communication through sign language (More, Please, All Done), ability to build on oral motor (eating, chewing, using tongue) etc. Aid in every aspect of life(eating by spoon and by pump through g-tube, sleeping, patching eye, walking, communication, movement, venting, hygiene, daily living activities) Being the one person that she does everything for made the career incredibly rewarding. I've also spent the last 3-4 years sitting for family and friends consistently, one family I helped on the weekends to watch their 1 (now 4)yr old boy and twin infants (now 2) and and for another family during the week while both parents worked watching their 1 yr old(now 5) 3 yr old(now 7) 9 yr old (now 12) cooking, playing, cleaning, bathing them, and putting them to bed. I also help out a friend from time to time when her and her husband go out, and I watch their 2 year old son , feed him, play with him and put him to bed. I also worked with another family who allowed me to take their newborn out to the community as well as home care. As well as I help my brother with his newborn daughter when they need the help, and I've helped watch a 14 and 15 year old boy with autism with a friend every now and then. I also love animals so pets are not a problem for me, the more the better! I love meeting new people and new experiences, challenges are a favorite thing of mine, I love to accomplish things that I have to work on. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!
