A little bit about us

Northern California family seek live in nanny to help with childcare, light cleaning and meal prep during on call hours and overnights.

I am a Midwife, and my husband is a Lawyer; we are looking for a live in nanny to help us with our children Sylvan (2 years), and Ruby(4 years).

We are organically minded and live as sustainably as we can. Our parenting philosophy is gentle, consistent and places emphasis on honesty, responsibility, communication and autonomy.

Nanny must have own car and be comfortable with commute to Trinity county on occasion if mom is at a birth and unable.

We are inclusive in our beliefs and respect all backgrounds.

We value: play, fresh air, clean eating, kindness, mutual respect, communication, clear body boundaries, predictable routines, attachment parenting, and good communication.

Your hours:

8pm-10am Monday to Friday
10am -8pm Monday to Friday
Weekends off

I (mom) work on a rotating call schedule as a staff midwife for a busy birth center, my hours are very unpredictable. My husband and I split time, so you will not work all the hours listed but we do need on call coverage for the entirety of the working week. Weekends are your own.

Your responsibilities would include:
Preparing breakfast, lunch for the kids.
Clean up of breakfast and lunch.
Prepping snacks and making them available in the fridge.
After school home play and nature time with kids at home.
Cleanup of all kid related messes and meals.
Watching Sylvan while I am at work.
Sending updates.
Occasional grocery shopping.
Thursday date night - watch kids and bathe them, put them to bed or read stories with them until we get home.

Your choice of accommodations:
Bedroom in our home with access to your own bathroom.
A small tiny home with composting toilet, and outdoor shower.
A small 16ft yurt with deck, outdoor kitchen, outdoor shower, outdoor claw foot tub and composting toilet.

What Are Night Nanny Jobs?

Night nanny jobs are overnight positions caring for children while their parents sleep, often for a newborn. These jobs suit nannies who prefer working nights, have newborn care experience, or want a schedule that leaves the daytime free.

Types of Night Nanny Jobs and Responsibilities

Duties include overnight feeds, diaper changes, soothing, and sleep logs, and for older children, overnight supervision. Some jobs are a few nights a week, and others are full-time for the first months of a baby's life. Check the nights, the shift hours, and whether you are expected to stay awake or can sleep when the child does.

How to Interview for Night Nanny Jobs

Once you start connecting with prospective employers, the next step is a nanny job interview. Here are some questions you should ask:

  • Which nights and hours do you need, and how long will the job last?
  • Will I be awake all night, or can I sleep when the baby does?
  • Where will I stay, and what is provided?
  • How will feeding be handled, breast or bottle?
  • How is overnight pay handled, and is there a written agreement?

Beyond asking these questions, families will want you to have your nanny references ready and ask any questions to show initiative. The nanny job interview is an excellent opportunity to get aligned on the nanny job expectations. By doing this, you can get off on the right foot with your future employer.
