More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have been a babysitter, a camp lifeguard/swim instructor, a live-out nanny, an after-school care teacher, a head counselor, a student teaching intern in a special ed classroom, and a live-in camp nanny.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love checking out the local libraries and parks. I enjoy finding outdoor activities in decent weather. If it's a rainy and cold day, I love to play games, read books, or build a fort and watch a movie (an alternative could be shadow puppets). I also spent some time as a science camp head counselor (see resume), so I am familiar with many home-friendly science experiments.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is being able to see the big picture. You're not simply caring for a child, you're caring for a future adult. Some things won't matter in the longterm and others will matter more than you realize. Keeping that perspective helps me to stay flexible and remember to learn from children at least as much as I teach them.
My experience with special needs children...
I have had experience caring for children with special needs in academic, professional, and personal environments. Growing up with a brother who is on the spectrum offered me an entire childhood to learn and understand how the specificities of someone who is on the spectrum can look, keeping in mind everyone on the spectrum is different. My internship in an elementary special ed. classroom allowed me to contextualize learning disabilities in an academic setting, including the implication of IEPs and other academic accommodations. Professionally, my job as a camp nanny included the care of a child on the autism spectrum. I feel that my skills managing the needs of the child grew tremendously as I settled into the job and has resulted in a successful summer season, so far :)
The most important part about being a nanny...
Most recently a moment that touched my heart was one morning at my camp job. Instead of having the usual 5 children (split between two nannies), I only had my nanny child on the spectrum and his younger brother. I sat down to tell them our itinerary for the day and he (the sp.ed. child) goes on to ask "Is it just us?", I responded with "yes". He says "good" and as I ask why he said that, he says "because you're a person that I like". At this point, I was tired from working the hours camp life demands and I felt I was merely managing the child (a lot of "no"s and redirections) as opposed to connecting with him. This seemingly small expression re-sparked the reason I love childcare. I had realized that even though I was tired and burnt out, I could offer care wherein a very particular child was excited to have another day all while holding firm on the boundaries I had set in place.

Part-Time Nanny Available in Estes Park, CO: Carlie H.
I’m a compassionate and dependable caregiver with strong experience supporting families and maintaining a fun, structured, and safe environment for children. While living in St. Louis, Missouri, I nannied for a family with two school-aged children, assisting with transportation to extracurricular activities, preparing dinners, helping with homework, and establishing consistent after-school and bedtime routines. In addition to childcare, I helped with daily household tasks such as cleaning the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms, and guided the children in learning how to help with chores like loading and unloading the dishwasher. I also assisted with pet care, including taking the family dogs for walks with the children. I love working with kids and animals, and I take pride in being reliable, nurturing, and a positive influence in the home.
