More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I’ve cared for babies, large groups of children (ages 4-9), and tutored children of all ages with a wide range of topics. I have experience making food for children (baby food as well), helping them with schoolwork, and even developmental activities for children that aren’t school age as well.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to spend energy outdoors with children, as it really allows us to use our imagination to make our own fun. Allowing the children a little bit of freedom to control and choose what they do for fun, challenges them to think more creatively, especially when outdoors! Storytelling is always fun too. It can be difficult to get kids to enjoy reading sometimes, but with the right story and atmosphere it can be fun for everybody! Other activities I enjoy doing is cooking, watching movies, and of course playing with their toys together. “Play school” is also something I do occasionally as well. If it makes the child happy, is good for them, and doesn’t make a huge mess in the house, I’m always ready to play along.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Remembering to be empathetic! These are the most crucial years of their lives as their personalities are still forming (and even going through phases), and we play a large role in that. It’s important to understand how they may be feeling at any given moment. Furthermore, it’s equally important to teach them how to PROCESS what they’re feeling, because oftentimes they’re too young and unaware to know yet (especially babies and toddlers). It’s important to be empathetic and emotionally aware for the child on their good days and their bad. Not to always punish them for bad behavior, but to teach them what/why they’re feeling and which choices they should make should they feel this way again. Emotional intelligence starts at a very young age, and it’s important to not get overwhelmed from “bad” emotions. Taking care of a child at any age isn’t always going to be smooth sailing, but it’s important to understand that you need to handle the bad with just as much grace as you handle the good.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It’s always funny to look at yourself and realize the crazy things you do to humor the kids! Playing doctor and letting kids operate on you is always funny to look back from. Getting interactive may feel silly but it’s so cute seeing how happy it makes them feel!
