My experience with special needs children...
My nephew is autistic and pretty much nonverbal, with the very little he can talk I have learned to understand him and what he wants/needs, Currently we are potty training and it is going fantastic! He can also have some pretty bad meltdowns and I know how to get him to calm down and catch a breath, when he begins getting aggressive I know how to calmly distract him with something else to take the attention away from the hitting, scratching, kicking, biting, etc. It can be hard somedays but there's nothing id rather do.
