Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and crafts!! We make wreaths for every holiday! And birthday parties! I start the decoration planning a month ahead and get the entire family involved. I coach children's sports, always a blast! Lifeguard and I was on the swim team in high school and college so I love the water. Putt putt, hiking, teaching girls how to cook and boys how to shoot hoops! I've had about 8 kids ranging in ages between newborn and 28 years old... I've learned a few things!
The most important part about being a nanny...
Oh.. hard question. All are equally important-over the years I've gotten attached but I'm not their parent. Maintaining the same rules that the home already has in place is so important. Kids never say how much they love structure but they really do. They need it to remain consistent. Staying on the same page as the parents whether you agree or not, is so important. You have to show that you're an indestructible team along side the parents, so they don't try to pull one over on you. At the end of the day.. what the parent says is how we roll!! And be a multi-tasker... if you have a fire on the stove, a kid on your hip, a baby in the tub and a toddler riding his big wheel down the stairs.. you better think and act fast! I keep a fire puter outer blanket at all times- as seen on TV! Works like a charm! And those couch cushions make a great landing for that brave big wheeler. And baby hip hammocks swing perfectly around to the back so you can snatch the other baby out of the water!
My experience with special needs children...
My daughter's father has an autistic son. I'll admit, it was challenging at first. I'm a very structured parent and that did not work with him. I learned a lot about myself and gained a new level of respect for parents going through challenging times. But they are a different kind of awesome. He got upset with me one day and flipped his chair over, so I flipped mine over.. then we laughed and ate on the floor underneath the desks. Each child is so different. You have to learn what works with their brain type. I have a genius IQ and special needs children are often extremely brilliant, it's about finding a way to connect to them and earn their trust.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I'm very big on not being the "cause I said so" person. One of my girls knew this about me. I told her to spit her gum out because we were about to have dinner. She replied with, well, I'm not hungry and you always say that chewing gum actually stimulates your saliva glands which in turn causes you to be hungry (I had used this on her to get her to stop eating so much gum as she was concerned on her calorie intake) needless to say.. she used it right back against me!! I had to give her a high 5 for that - I mean - she actually listened so it was a win win.

I have 5+ years of babysitting experience and am comfortable with kids of all ages. I’m responsible, have my own car, and can help with pickups, activities, and full-day care. I also have experience with special needs through my sister, which has made me patient and adaptable.
