The most important part about being a nanny...
One day, just as it was beginning to rain, I was sitting under a clear umbrella while having outdoor time with a little one, (age 8-10 months old) and listening to the rain sprinkle down gently. She was so curious and intrigued by the dancing drops onto the umbrella. Her eyes lit up and her feet began to kick wildly in her baby seat. Every so often I would move the umbrella just enough for her hands to feel the raindrops and she really got a thrill from feeling them land on her skin. Her little voice began to shriek and tons of laughter and smiles followed. We must have stayed outside experiencing the light drizzle for about 30 minutes before heading back inside. Not only was it a peaceful experience, it was stimulating for both of us. As I continued caring for her over the next year, I would often use gentle rain as a way we could bond in nature. I’m forever grateful to have experienced the rain with her that way. It is a sweet memory that is etched in my heart.
