I started babysitting for families within my church and my extended family at the age of 12. After that, I started working in daycares at 16 and have been in 2.
I started nannying privately because I wasn't happy with splitting my attention so many ways between all the kids I was with. I just finished working for a family with infant twins. I was with them from 8 weeks to 10 months.

I enjoy teaching art, tutoring for school, teaching basic cooking, and being outside to play and practice sports.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Being able to connect with the kids and the family. As a nanny, you are an integral part of the children's lives, if you aren't able to connect with them, it makes teaching and caring for them much harder. Connecting with the family and parents is just as important, though. Being able to have good, honest communication with the guardians of your charge is essential to being able to provide proper care.
My experience with special needs children...
I have previously worked for a family that has a two-year-old boy with special needs. My main focus was on learning signs to help with communication, his first words, and moving from his walker to walking on his own.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Setting up a colored bubble bin in the backyard, then letting the kids make art of it. The two-year-old then decided he would like it to be bath time and climbed into the tub filled with water, soap, and food coloring! Long story short, he wasn't too happy he had to take another bath after that.
