The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part of being a nanny is being able to provide a safe and supportive space where the kiddos can have fun, play and get their energy out, and learn a thing or two along the way:) I honestly remember every kid I've ever watched, and I can only hope they grow up and remember their babysitter who made them feel special, smart, and silly!
My experience with special needs children...
Senior year of high school [phone number hidden]) I had the opportunity to be a teacher's aide in a special education art class with high school student in the MOID and MID classroom, moderate and mild intellectual disabilities. I got my substitute teacher certification and subbed full time in a high school SID/PID class, severe and profound disabilities. Then I got my paraprofessional certification and worked in a middle school MOID unit as a one-on-one paraprofessional and classroom paraprofessional before transitioning to ABA where I was January 2023 to December 2023. Since then I have been nannying full time for children with special needs!
I have worked with kiddos with special needs from age 2-22 with autism, down syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, cerebral palsy, pica, William's syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, RAD, epilepsy, fragile x syndrome, ODD... a huge spectrum of skills and abilities:)

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have SO many good moments it's hard to pick just one!
A recent moment that comes to mind, I was playing with one of my favorite little friends: pushing her on the swing, performing The Little Mermaid soundtrack, and making silly strongman poses all at the same time. She was cracking up and singing along, asking me to push her higher and higher. When the song ended she said, "Alexis, you know you're the best babysitter ever." Of course I responded, "You know, you're the best kid I babysit!" When her mom got home it was the first thing she told her, that she's the best kid I babysit! I also get frequent texts from her mom... "She's been counting down the days until her next "Alexis day" since the MOMENT you left."
