Kathi S. - Seeking Work in Woodstock

I am 57 years old. I am energetic and very healthy. I raised 4 children of my own, the last who is still at home is 19. I am currently a nanny for a baby boy and have cared for him since he was 12 weeks old. His mom has recently decided to quit her job and be at home with him full time. Before this job I was a nanny for a family in NW Georgia since August. I cared for their triplets, one of which has a light case of Cerebral Palsy and needs extra assistance. I also care for their 3 older children as needed, ages 8,7 and 4. I was very attached to these children and they to me; however, their business moved them. employment again. I did light laundry for them and tried to help out as I had spare time. This was not required of me, but I do not like being bored and I felt this young mom could use some extra support from me. From 2003 to January 2012 my husband and I were house parents in faith based boy's ranches. We were surrogate parents to 6 boys within the foster system of Georgia. These boys lived with us 24/7, 3 weeks out of each month. We lived as a family unit and were responsible for all their needs, educational, emotional, physical and spiritual. These boys have issues that make it impossible for them to live within residential foster homes but we have had much success in helping many of them turn their lives around. I love children and love helping them learn and grow emotionally, physically and spiritually. I am certified in CPR/First Aid. I also worked in the medical field for over 6 years as both a medical assistant and nursing assistant. I have also been successful in helping boys who were deemed "non-adoptable" to grow into men who were adopted and are living successfully with their adoptive families. I have much experience in raising children, loving children, cooking and counseling. I believe I would make a great nanny/household manager for any family.

My childcare experiences began in my early years of high school. I babysat throughout the school years and into my summer vacations for neighbors who wanted someone they knew and trusted to take care of their children while away. This would typically consist of a few hours after school, during the day in the summer, and occasionally on weekends when needed. Because I loved having the opportunity to help take care of younger children in my neighborhood, I continued my childcare interest throughout high school and now into my college years. Starting senior year of high school, I not only babysat for local families, but also provided tutoring opportunities for middle school students, specifically in math. This enabled me to both help take care of children as well as be a mentor for students who needed help from an outside source. During senior year, I was also presented with the opportunity to house-sit periodically for a neighbor, along with tutor and watch her 13 year-old son. I greatly enjoyed getting to know this family and being able to help her son succeed in school, student-to-student. I have maintained a close relationship with this family and have continued to help them, when needed, while home for the summer. I am now in my third year of college at Georgia College & State University (GCSU) and am a Middle Grades Education major, with a concentration in Math and English. I have forever loved working with younger children and students and am so thrilled to have fully committed myself to pursuing a life in the middle grades. Although my heart is filled with love for middle level education, I thoroughly enjoy babysitting children of all ages and am always eager for new experiences.

When I was 13 years old, my mother opened her own daycare in our home. After school, I enjoyed playing with the infants and helping the older children with their homework. In fact, my first job was tutoring in my mom's daycare. At age 15, I was hired as a summer nanny for a nine year old boy and his 7 year old sister. I wasn't able to drive yet, but we enjoyed walking to the park, doing art projects and playing outside. During my last two years of high school, my aunt and uncle hired me as a part-time nanny for my two younger cousins, a 3 year old girl and a 6 year old boy. I was responsible for homework, bath time, dinner and bedtime (with a story or two of course). I have not been a nanny/babysitter since moving from Washington State to Georgia, but I can't wait to nanny for a Georgia family.

I spent one year of my experience in the Children's activities center. There I was familiarized with boys and girls of all ages (3mon - 11yrs). I received my First Aid training there and CPR. I was also trained in how to react in emergency situations. I was offered a nanny position and moved to my a family of two boys, ages 2 and 6. I worked for them for about 7months. They no longer needed my services, so I accepted another nanny position. This position consisted of watching 3 boys ages 18mon, 3, and 5. I would spend most of the day with the baby. My duties consisted of playing with the baby, preparing meals, light cleaning, dishes, playing with the older boys when they got home, taking to after-school activities, and baths. I worked there for over a year, and would have loved to continue, but they moved.

I am an upbeat young woman who adores children and loves to play and laugh, sing and dance, and learn and teach. Some of my favorite things to do with kids: board games, dress-up, karaoke, drawing, making snacks, outdoor walks, and storytelling. Just to name a few. I have been working with children as soon as my parents deemed me old enough and have recently moved to the Atlanta area from North Carolina. Back home I was always surrounded by children in some fashion or another. Whenever my parents went out with friends I would care for my brother and their children, which has given me ample experience with multiple children. I've worked with up to five children, aged infant to fourteen. I also worked as a nursery matron for Classical Conversations homeschool tutorial for 3 semesters, caring for the youngest pupils ages 4 and under. Essentially, it was for two years and I really enjoyed being able to grow with those kids. Seeing babies turn to toddlers, toddlers turn into kindergarteners was a great experience. A majority of my experience is with toddlers through age 10. I am looking forward to meeting the girls and I appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the position and see if we're a good fit!
