Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have volunteered at a summer camp, called Kesem for the last two years. The camp is for kids who are facing a parents cancer diagnosis. I was a camper at that camp growing up and it fills my heart to get to go out there for a week each summer and give those kids facing the scariest moments of there lives the same support that I got. I have learned so many valuable skills from working there, especially in working with emotional children. I believe that it has made me a better person, and more equipped to be a great nanny.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to go to the park, play with toys, read stories and do arts and crafts. I love to cook and would love to get the kids involved in the kitchen with age appropriate activities, so that the can feel proud of preparing there own food, I have also found that this is a good way to get picky eaters to try new things!
My experience with special needs children...
My little brother was born with a genetic condition that caused developmental delays and I have helped care for him for most of my life. I understand the importance of routines and schedules, and I am more than happy to learn any additional needs that may need to be addressed. I consider myself very patient and caring which I think is essential when caring for a special needs child.
