More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I babysat often as a teenager, worked at a daycare while in college, taught children of all ages as a private tutor and preschool teacher through my All Ways Learning business, and worked as a para-educator and teacher's assistant in preschool, Montessori and special education classes before becoming a nanny. I've been a nanny to infants and toddlers for 3 years. I know basic ASL as well as have a Teaching English to Students of Other Languaged certificate, which have instilled knowledge and skills for evaluating and encourage young children's language development. I earned an Early Childhood Certificate a while ago, and regularly educate myself about child development; enriching age-appropriate activities to do with children, and the scientifically proven "best practices" for how to nurture children in a way that promotes their socio-emotional and intellectual growth. I am also interested in various challenges humans face that impacts their life so to try to accommodate them.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Arts and crafts
Nature walks
Sensory explorations (e.g. using rocks to make different sounds, feel different tectures and weights, see different sizes and colors, watch them cause a splash in a puddle, etc.)
Music time (sing, play "instruments", do body movement chants)
Going to library storytimes and "stay and play" time
Going to various parks and places
Reading or using picture books
Creating climbing or other obsticles for them to do indoors
Seeing what they enjoy doing and offering more opportunities for them to do that in different ways
Giving them new sensory experiences

The most important part about being a nanny...
I love knowing that I'm offering the children I care for things that lead to healthy brain development and a secure attachment style, thus greater chance for a happier and healthier life long-term! I believe that my child-focused approach toward guiding and caring for them as well as my knowledge about how to ensure optimal safety and emergency care offers children a great environment in which to explore their interests, act safely and respectfully, and have sense of belonging and self-worth.
My experience with special needs children...
I've worked with children who were on the autism spectrum or had cerebral palsy, ADHD, or a language delay. I grew up with a sister who is deaf and I, myself am hearing impaired. For this reason, I know intimately what it's like to be misunderstood and judged harshly for something I cannot help (I wear hearing aides now, but didn't as a child). I also offered English language classes in Russian language daycares as well as offered English language, reading and writing lessons to indivuals and small groups of school-age children. In addition, I have worked with young adults with Down's Syndrome and other intellectal disabilities, so I've been exposed to their special needs.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I love hugging and holding children of any age! I also love hearing them laugh and seeing them smile or deeply engaged in something. Comforting them when they're upset or relating to them on an emotional level of any kind makes me feel so good...just knowing I'm there for them. It's so validating and rewarding to receive a spontaeous hug from achild, and to see his or her face light up when I arrive to see them. Singing to them before their nap time and seeing the reach for my hand as a last "goodbye" before they go down...and then fall fast asleep after a busy dsy is another favorite "nanny moment" of mine. There are so many memories and cherished moments occur with each child I care for....It's why I love being a nanny!
