I volunteered in kindergarten classes. I have also helped/babysat my sister who is disabled. I also help/babysit my 2 1/2 year old nephew who is autistic.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I would say due to my sister being disabled because of a babysitter it is really important to provide a safe environment/space. With my experience working with young children has shown me how important patience, kindness, and consistency are. I want families to know their child is in a safe, caring environment where they’ll be supported, encouraged, and genuinely cared for.
My experience with special needs children...
I have an older sister who suffered a traumatic brain injury/shaken baby, so i’ve lived my whole life with a disabled sibling. I started helping and caring for her with daily activities around 10 years old. Some examples are showering, assisting getting her dressed, brushing teeth, preparing meals, working on sorting, speech, fine motor skills, eating, coloring. Taking her to the park to walk and play, taking her swimming. Recently started helping with my nephew who is 2 1/2 who was just diagnosed as autistic and is also non-verbal, helping him with activities such as using a spoon and fork, coloring, showing him how to identify daily objects such as food, toys, items he uses everyday.
