I worked in a facility daycare for a year, as a volunteer and then substitute. I then worked in an in home daycare for 7 years as an assistant teacher.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Imaginative play and outdoor play are very important for children and their development. I ensure as much outside time as possible (weather permitting). Art projects, reading, and sensory play are some of my favorite activities to prep for. Not only do children love them, but they get to engage with their teacher on their terms and become imaginative and creative.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Children are our future. As cliche as it sounds. They need structure, education, care, and fun. The most important part about being a nanny is not only being there for the child, but also the entire family. Allowing parents to go to work or where they need to go and have them know that their child(ren) are safe is just as important as the care for the child(ren).
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children with ADHD, ASD, and trauma. I have worked with children who have health issues such as asthma and allergies. I have also worked with a child who was in a foster home, waiting for the foster parents to adopt the child, while the child was working through anger and sadness being taken from their biological parents.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have taken children to museums, aquariums, shopping, bowling, and to different parks and playgrounds. My favorite moments have been when we are driving back home and they share how much fun they had. They also share with their parents how much fun they had.
