Hi! My name is Almendra — I’m a 21-year-old bilingual (English & Spanish) caregiver with a strong background in childcare and healthcare. I’m a Certified Nursing Assistant with CPR and BLS certification, currently working in a skilled nursing facility caring for dementia, Alzheimer’s, and rehab patients. In recent years, I’ve also helped my aunt as she transitioned into being a single parent, caring for her three children — a 9-month-old, a 3-year-old, and a 9-year-old. My responsibilities included school drop-offs and pick-ups, meal prep, grocery runs, and light cleaning to ease her workload. I love keeping kids active, creative, and engaged! Growing up, I played outside league soccer and later joined my high school’s varsity soccer and volleyball teams, so I enjoy playing sports and outdoor games with children. I was also involved in FFA and raised pigs for the Salinas Valley Fair, which taught me patience and responsibility — things I like to share with kids through hands-on learning. With my siblings, I love playing video games like Minecraft and Roblox, going on walks with our pets, and spending time outdoors. With younger kids, I enjoy doing arts and crafts like slime, clay figures, and coloring activities that let them express their creativity while having fun!

The most important part of being a nanny is building trust and creating a safe, nurturing environment where children feel supported and valued. A great nanny not only meets a child’s physical needs but also helps them grow emotionally, socially, and intellectually. I believe consistency, patience, and genuine care are key to forming strong connections with both the children and their parents. Being dependable, communicating openly, and respecting each family’s routines and values are what truly make a difference in helping children thrive.

My experience with special needs children...

My experience with special needs children comes mainly from caring for my younger cousin, who has difficulty with focus and impulsivity. When my aunt became a single parent, I often helped with her three children, learning how to keep him calm and engaged through active play and sensory activities like jumping on the trampoline, playing with toy trucks, or using kinetic sand. Growing up with ADHD myself has also helped me understand that every child has different needs and ways of expressing themselves. While I don’t have extensive experience working with other special needs children, my background as a Certified Nursing Assistant and hospital intern has strengthened my patience, empathy, and ability to adapt to individual needs.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of my favorite babysitting memories is from when my parents traveled out of the country for a family funeral, and I was responsible for caring for my younger siblings. Each day, I handled school drop-offs and pick-ups, made breakfast in the mornings, and helped with homework after school. Every evening, we ended our day with a cozy movie night and homemade treats. We’d bake chocolate chip cookies or try a new recipe together, each of us taking on a role in the process. It became our little routine and one of my favorite traditions. Even now, they still ask to bake something whenever we have a movie night. It’s a reminder of how small moments of care can turn into lasting family memories.
