More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have traveled to several countries and worked with kids in Ecuador (orphanage), Egypt (infant care and special needs care - 3 months), Australia (trained and served as a birth educator and doula - 2 years). In America, I served as a babysitter for my church as a teen and young adult. I worked at the Children’s Courtyard, working with infant to preschool age children. I taught ballet to 3-5 year olds for 1 1/2 years. I ran a daycare for an homeschool coop, for 2 years (ages 6m-2year olds). And ran 2 daycares for homeschool practicums. For the past 2 years have been doing homeschooling my daughter and inviting other children to do preschool with us.
I am CPR certified, and have a clean record/driving record.
Overall, I have over 15 years experience working with children, and I love what I do!

The most important part about being a nanny...
One of the most valuable parts of teaching preschool through play is introducing a variety of different stills/activities, knowing when to step back and let them explore or step in and teach, and allowing the child’s interest be the guide. That means, not forcing a young child to engage, but listening to their capacity to engage, and moving on when needed. This is a Montessori/child-lead learning value that observes and nurtures the child’s stage of development, mental, and emotional health.
My experience with special needs children...
I very briefly engaged with children on the autistic spectrum. But wouldn’t say I’m experienced.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favourite thing is using the imagination to create interactive learning through play! When I first started caring for a 4yo boy, he was used to watching a lot of tv/iPad. At first it was hard to get him off screens and interested in play-learning, but one day he reluctantly followed me outside to the swings. As I was pushing him, I started saying “this is your pilot speaking. We’re ready for takeoff in 10…9…8... BLASTOFF!” He learned his planets through play, and would tell me which planet he wanted to visit in his spaceship (aka swing). He then took it further and had to steer the ship away from meteors. The next day when I came to his house, he didn’t want to play iPad, he immediately asked to play spaceship!
It was so sweet to discover what his interests were, and use that as a guideline! And through play-learning, he learned the name of each planets.
I love looking for opportunities like these to teach life skills, science, math, reading, etc!!!
