A little bit about me

Hi there! My name is Amara. I began my professional career is 2011 in high school, and continued building my experiences all throughout college. In 2018, I graduated from EIU with my degree in Early Childhood Ed./Family Services. Since then I have relocated back here to my hometown and have had the pleasure of providing excellent services to nearby families in many different ways (i.e date nights, holiday/sick day coverage, nannying, and routine babysitting). I am very flexible as far as days/times and types of care to offer. I look forward meeting new families to continue my path!

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In 2011 I began my professional career as the student teacher and summer school teacher at a Christian Academy. From [phone number hidden] I was employed at an Early Learning center (part time while in school, full time for 3 years after graduation) as the lead teacher for both Pre-K4 and school age(5-11). While in between centers after my relocation, I nannied for 2 young children—along with routine babysitting for other families. For the past year and a half I have been employed at an Early Childhood Education center as the lead teacher in the nursery(6wks-16mos).

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love arts, science and reading! I enjoy the fact that those areas specifically have so much room for imagination and individuality. I also enjoy incorporating those areas with outdoor experiences!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Trust, communication, and mirroring the same love and care that parents would typically be providing during the time I spend with their child(ren).

I like for families to know that I am here to continue whatever lifestyle/rules/goals they already have in place, as well as offer the willingness and knowledge to develop them further in whatever ways they see fit!

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve had experience with special needs in many forms while in the classroom(i.e allergies, learning and behavioral challenges, emotional disorders, and vision impairments). I was the one-on-one aid for a special needs child with Down’s syndrome for the summer of 2015.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have two that happen very often! In no particular order, my favorite nannying moments are:

When the weekend comes and the child(ren) I’m caring for ask their parents where I am! (or mention my name at random times). It lets me know that they enjoy/look forward to my being there as much as I do :)

Secondly, when their birthday is approaching and a child invites me to their party or celebration without prompt. I strive to attend every party that I am invited to in hopes of showing that child that my love and support for them go beyond the time I am paid to be with them.
