Hi, my name is Amaya! I am a senior in high school. I am a student athlete and and artist. I’m looking to become a teacher someday. I am doing some college classes too right now so im looking for a job that I can do after school and/or on weekends, while helping out parents who might need support with their kiddos. I have two sisters and family pets. I often babysit for my aunt who has 8 kids, ages 3-16 and I love hanging out and making a connection with kids!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

In my training to become an educator, I did a student internship for 4 months where I taught second graders and observed classrooms of students pre-school through seventh grade. With this opportunity, I learned how to handle various situations, build connections with children and gain experience in engaging with special needs children. During this time, I also babysat my cousins who are ages 3-16 over weekends, afterschool, and even some overnights.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy going outdoors, to the park and on walks! Exploring and playing outdoors is important for children of all ages. I enjoy doing arts and crafts and activities that will encourage the creative aspect of childhood. I enjoy relaxing activities as well such as reading books with children and working on some of those literary skills while having fun.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny or babysitter is building a connection with a child and earning mutual trust. Once trust and comfort is established the child will be able to flourish while doing activities that they enjoy!

My experience with special needs children...

I got an opportunity to care for special needs children during a volunteer coaching event that ran 2 weeks over the summers. I got experience with how to engage children who have varying levels of autism. Coming up with creative ways of engaging kids was challenging but absolutely a challenge I am willing to take on. We integrated their favorite video game characters into our drills and got prizes like Rubix cubes and puzzles to incentivize participation. I also had some special needs children in my second grade class I taught and observed during my internship. There were days where meltdowns were inevitable and I learned how to establish limits and when to encourage a child to try something new.
