More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
While I have never done anything significant in childcare, I have had a lot of experience with children of all ages. I have 3 little sisters, and 2 little brothers. So, being the oldest sibling gives me a little experience from the start. I have always loved kids, so one day, my friend had asked me to watch her baby, and I agreed to. From that moment on, it kind of just clicked that I wanted to do a job that involved kids, so I started babysitting. I have been babysitting for 8 years now, for children ranging from 6 months, to 15 years old. It just comes naturally to me, kids always seem to warm up to me pretty quickly. People find me on facebook in the babysitter's group, and I just always go whenever someone needs me. I do have one family that I babysit for on a pretty regular basis, and I love the kids like they are my own.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Activities that I do with children depend on the age, and what they like. For a 2 year old boy that I babysit, we watch cartoons together, we color pictures, we play with his toys, and we go outside for the trampoline. For a 4 year old girl that I babysit, we like going to the park, coloring/painting pictures, and her personal favorite is baking cookies with pink sprinkles. For an 6 year old girl that I babysit, she is pretty laidback, and she loves to just sit on the couch and watch movies. Our activities together consist of watching movies, or painting her nails for her, or playing outside with her dogs. In additon, at every house that I babysit in, I always try to get the kids to sit down and paint pictures with me, or play games, but they have minds of their own, and just want to play. Although, the 8 year old is the most different. She hardly does any activities, but instead, wants to sit down with me and ask questions about my family, pets, etc. So the activities vary.
The most important part about being a nanny...
What matters most to me about being a babysitter is the bonds that we form. One day, after finishing college, and being ready, I dream to have 6 kids of my own, and babysitting not only gives me practice, but it also brightens my day to make children happy. The family that I babysit for regularly has become so close and important to me, that sometimes I text the parents and ask if they can go on dates just so I can come babysit, even when they don't need me to. And I always worry about them having another babysitter when I'm not available, because I literally feel like they are my kids sometimes, and I always want to meet the new babysitter first. So, I would have to say that the bonds are most important thing to me, as well as them being safe, happy, and healthy.
My experience with special needs children...
This question is actually my favorite, because it makes me think of my cousin. I had a special needs cousin named Isiah, and we went to the same school from elementary, all the way to high school. Our school Special Needs teacher would take his class to different classrooms every day, to let them sit in and watch the classes. The teacher knew that Isiah was my cousin, so a majority of the time, he always brought them to whatever class I was in. He would always have to come sit in the back with me, because he was anxious around strangers. When I went to his house to see him, I always helped him eat, change, or whatever he needed. I cared for him a lot while his parents were out. Unfortunately, a few years ago, he developed cancer, and didn't make it through. I have also recently babysat for a 2 year old boy who is special needs. He never said one word to me, or anyone really. but he warmed up pretty quickly to me, and even painted pictures with me.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite babysitter moment, since I am not technically a nanny, would have to be a moment I had with my regular family. After I had worked for her for the first time, she asked me to come back the next day, and that the trial period seemed to have went well. She has an 8 year old, a 6 year old, and a 2 year old. Aftrer leaving, I got the feeling that the 6 year old didn't like me very much, because she didn't talk to me the whole time. The next day, when I came back, she jumped up to hug me and said "Does this mean you'll be here to play with us every day? That's so awesome!' And ever since then, when I babysit for them, she always asks me why I have to leave, and why I can't just live with her. The bond that forms between me and the kids, is amazing, and there is nothing better.
