My 9 year old nephew has autism and I have a unique yet deeply special bond with him. My 6 year old cousin is also on the spectrum and I am one of the only people she has taken a liking to.

My at the time 7 year old cousin had a rough home life and I was helping him with him homework due to him not understanding it yet. He got extremely frustrated with himself, felt overwhelmed and started negative self talk. He broke down in my arms when I walked him to the couch so he can take a break. I corrected his negative self talk with reassurance and positive reinforcement and just comforted him. Though this moment makes me sad to think about, I hold it deep to my heart. It was the moment I realized what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
