A little bit about me

I am a 38-year-old (turning 39 on April 14), non-smoker who truly loves caring for children. I am a retired LPN and have spent many years helping others, both in healthcare and through childcare. During my nursing career, I primarily worked with the elderly population, which strengthened my compassion, patience, and caregiving skills. I have been caring for children since I was 13 years old and have experience with ages ranging from 3 months to 10 years old. Most recently, I babysat a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old. After that position ended, I cared for a 4-year-old and a 9-year-old until their family relocated to South Carolina. Although a car accident in my early 20s left me unable to have children of my own, caring for kids has always been a meaningful and joyful part of my life. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I took a babysitter course when I was 12 years old and after I started babysitting neighborhood children. They were ages 7 months to 11 years old. I also was a big sister in the organization Big Brothers, Big Sisters. I mentored an young 8 year old for 7 years. I also grew up with two younger sisters and was responsible for starting at the age of 10. My sister has schizo-effective Bipolar and she has a daughter who when she was very young was at my house 4-5 days a week until my sister was able to get on the correct medication. Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy reading, crafting, playing with toys, playing outside, taking them to the park, taking them to the planetarium, and anything they want to do, as long as it is not a danger to themselves or others.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I believe the most important part of being a nanny would be keeping the child safe and also to feel loved. I also believe it is important to help them along the journey of finding themselves as an individual and education is very important.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a nephew with autism and a nephew with severe ADHD. I babysit them occasionally. I alao grew up with a sister who has special needs. I worked in the healthcare field for 20 years mostly with geriatric patients but also in the hospital in the NICU. My work with geriatric patients taught a lot about special needs. My mother was a special needs teacher and I was her TA. I also made sure if the kids from her class were being made fun of I would step in. It didn't matter if I had to step in front of people who were my friends, I always did what I could to take care of my mom's students.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My favorite nanny story is when I was 16 years old and I was babysitting a 3 year old.
I took him to the planetarium and he was so amazed at everything and he smiled the entire time we were there. Afterwards he told everyone all about it for weeks and would beg me or his parents to take him back there!
