A little bit about me

My name is Anjanelle, I am a college student currently at Suffolk County Community College, seeking to pursue nursing. I love to work with children; I worked as a swim instructor for children for about a year, with a variety of different age groups from as young as 6m-13 years old. My most recent job experience is as an assistant preschool/daycare teacher. I worked mostly with 3 and 4 year olds, but do have experience with infants, 18m, and 2 year olds. I worked at this job for over a year. I have learned many important factors of childcare. I learned different ways to approach conflict based on the child's individual responses, proper ways to physically handle a child (supporting the neck of an infant, dangers of nursemaid's elbow, shaken baby syndrome and SIDS) as well as other skills. I have great communication skills and am always open to tips from Mom and Dad. I'm also a certified NYS EMT-B, I'm very flexible, and I'm so excited to start nannying!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Patience! Every child is different and they will adjust to change differently. Some can be very excited to have a nanny, others might have harder time adjusting. Children that are new to Nannying or other childcare programs, might view it as a "replacement" of Mom and Dad, it is understandable for them to panic, or get sad. It is important to have patience, because with some children they may calm within 15 minutes, other could be hours, but they need your patience because they need your help and support. Young children tend to experiment in behavior, it can be tiring to express discipline to a child repeatedly, but it is important to have patience, especially with disciplining, because it takes time for a child to understand right and wrong. For example, if I had a child experimenting in behavior, I would pull them aside, explain why it cannot be done, give them another chance and encourage them to "Make it better", and reward them for GOOD behavior.

I have worked with children with conditions like Autism, Speech Impairments, and Specific Learning Disabilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Too many to count as a daycare teacher. I spent nearly everyday with the children in my classroom for a year. I would say my favorite moments were coming into my shift and being greeted by the children and immediately asked: "Ms. A! How did you get in here?" where I would respond "By spaceship.." "Through the window.." "I swam..." and my children thought it was hysterical! I always love learning the individual traits of a child, and creating a bond with them where they can look up to me as a role model and example, but also a friend to them.
