The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is building a trusting, nurturing relationship with both the child and their family. A nanny plays a vital role in a child’s daily life not just supervising, but actively supporting their growth, learning, and emotional development. Creating a safe, consistent, and loving environment allows children to thrive and feel secure. Being a nanny also means being dependable, communicative, and respectful of the family’s values and routines, while bringing creativity, patience, and genuine care into each day. In my experience, being a nanny also means wearing many hats caregiver, teacher, role model, and even a source of comfort during tough moments. It’s important to stay flexible and attentive to each child’s unique personality, interests, and needs. Whether it’s guiding them through challenges, encouraging their imagination, or simply sharing a laugh, every interaction is an opportunity to make a positive impact on their development and well being
My experience with special needs children...
I had the opportunity to work with children with special needs through Camp Grace, a specialized program under the YMCA. In this role, I provided direct support to campers with a range of physical, developmental, and emotional needs. I adapted activities to ensure accessibility, promoted inclusion in group settings, and built strong, trusting relationships with each child. This experience deepened my patience, empathy, and creativity as a caregiver and helped me learn how to communicate effectively with both children and their families.
Additionally, I collaborated closely with team members to create a safe and supportive environment, where every child could participate meaningfully and feel valued.
