A little bit about me

Hi- My name is Ariana and I'm a Junior at Grace Christian University. I've been working with children since I was 14 years old and I absolutely love it.

I started by volunteering at church in the nursey, then V.B.S., which lead me to being a summer camp counselor and babysitting through the school year. Since moving to the Grand Rapids area I have been working at a licensed learning center. Here I primarily work with preschoolers & toddlers, but I love kids of all ages.

When I am not in class I spend my spare time reading, being with friends and family, and enjoying nature. I love outdoor activities for example hiking, camping, going to beaches, etc. I also enjoy traveling and take any chance I have to go and experience life in different ways.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Currently I work part-time at a learning center in East Grand Rapids. I provide care for toddlers and preschooler! On a daily basis I provide for their basic needs and I also help them discover new ways of learning / growing to better their understanding of their surroundings.

Volunteering during V.B.S. & the summer camp counselor job I had the opportunity to help kids build life and team working skills.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy outdoor activities with children! I think the more outside time the better, but the weather may not always permit so I have a slue of indoor activities as well.

During our time outdoors I will take children on nature walks and come up with small interactive activities to make it more interesting. Taking them to parks is another great option, so they have other kids to socialize with. During the summer months I am sure there will be visits to ice cream shops, walking to find some fun community events that are going on in the area as well.

During our indoor time, I want to provide the same excitement as outdoor activities. I love crafting, and doing small DIY things that the children can partake in! I ask them for ideas and what their interest are to help me narrow down the craft. Painting is another great activity to do with the children as well. But if they want a more relax kind of day, I think it could be fun to try and play some board or card games of their choice!

My experience with special needs children...

I worked at Spectrum Community Services where I was a Professional Community Life Skill worker for children with special needs. I had a narrow focus for children specifically with Down Syndrome & High-Mid functioning Autism. On a daily basis I would provide for the basic needs of the children. Throughout our time together I helped them become independent. I would provide the opportunity for them to go into the community and encourage them to socialize with children their age & help them with these skills. When not in the community I would help the children (in home) grow in their communication and coping skills as well through exercises.
