I have worked at the Lindenhurst park district for before and after care for children. When I lived in Arizona I worked with special needs and children who had mood disorders. I would plan activities for fun and to learn. I would help them develop life skills and work through stress in healthy ways. I would encourage the children to express their feelings and help them to be social.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I believe getting to be challenged and creative is a great time. Whether it is an established sport to a unique game that we created from the ground up it there is no reason to be bored. Reading a book, playing a video game, drawing a new character, conducting a science experiment, learning something new, there’s so much to do!
My experience with special needs children...
I have cared for children with autism, mood disorders, and children that have gone through trauma. Children can have a hard time communicating their needs. That is for any child. It’s important to patient and understanding. It is frustrating for them too.
