Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy playing games that require brain power and strategy with kids (i.e., Checkers, Chess, Uno, Connect 4). Getting outside and playing some four-square or “catch” is also a personal favorite, but a movie night is also a must every once in a while!
The most important part about being a nanny...
is giving the kids a sense of security and setting an example for their character. Children are very observant, they learn from those around them and setting an example of honesty, respect, and diligence is important.
My experience with special needs children...
I’ve personally cared for two younger cousins, 5 and 8, who are on the Autism Spectrum. I’ve found that listening to the child and observing their physical behaviors will oftentimes tell you what they need or aid you in coming to a conclusion. Parents know their children best, so I always take note of any information they give me about the child to apply in later situations.
The most important part about being a nanny...
was with my brother. It was his 6th birthday and he was so excited to eat his cake! He shoved his hand in it, slammed a chunk into his face (not much in his mouth). He smiled ear to ear while everyone else stared in shock before joining him in his fit of laughter. He then smashed his face into the cake faster than any of us could register it.
