A little bit about me

My name is Athena. I have been working with kids since 2011 and I love every moment of it. I started as just a classroom aide in my local elementary school my junior year of high school when I didn't have any classes to attend. I knew then that working with kids was what I wanted in life. Though it took me a while to find my preffered child related job-nannying. I have worked in public schools, headstart programs, after school programs. I have been lead teachers, assistant teachers, private tutors, sign language interpreter, and now finally a nanny. I find I lean more towards Montessori/gentle teaching rather than traditional- in that most everything I do is child led. From potty training to outdoor activities to field trips. The only thing I keep consistent are meal and rest times. Other than that I love including the kids in the decisions throughout the day.
I do require all payments to be legal(taxes coming out) but I am more than happy to help you through the process!

Kate
"Every morning when Athena would walk in our daughter, who was so shy and fearful of anyone beyond my husband and me, would shriek in delight and crawl as fast as she could do the door to embrace Athena. She loved her dearly and Athena truly was her best friend who laughed with her, helped her learn and grow, shared in her joy and helped to soothe her pain. I am so grateful for the loving care she has given our daughter and even more grateful for the lifelong friend our family has gained. Athena was an exceptional employee. She had the highest level of integrity, excellent and mature communication, was always prompt if not early and really went above and beyond to research and plan activities and playdates for our daughter to participate in. I can guarantee that your child(ren)’s lives will be so deeply enriched by Athena’s involvement and love. I recommend her at the highest degree for any nanny or childcare position. "

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked in public schools as a sign language interpreter, a special needs aide, daycare teacher, headstart teacher, community assistant for developmentally delayed adults, teacher assistant, and more. I am so grateful for all of my non nanny experience because it helps me understand the more minute details of child development and activities to help their growth and development in every aspect.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am a big advocate for independent play in children. It builds confidence, independence, courage, problem solving skills, and so many other wonderful characteristics that will help them as they get older. But throughout the day I love to have planned activities as well. I do a lot of art activities as that often helps with fine motor, gross motor, cognitive and is usually a great sensory activity. And I love getting outdoors, whether it's a trip to the park, a picnic, zoo, aquarium, walking trail, library, swimming pool, even walking around a grocery store can be a fun and exciting adventure for a child. I also do these types of activities with infants (normally 5 months and older). Because just being in a stroller outside of the house they can experience new smells, sounds, sights, and touch new textures! All of these things help cognitive growth, even in small infants.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I love the connection and bond that I'm able to make with the children as their nanny. Having such low children to adult ratios creates a strong relationship that helps the child to learn, listen, trust, and feel important and empowered. I also love being able to help children develop different skills and knowledge at their skill level and pace. Also, having the freedom to explore places outside the home helps tremendously with their social skills and community values.

My experience with special needs children...

I have worked with children and adults who have special needs. I have been a private interpreter and aide, a sign language interpreter, and a teacher assistant in a public school special education classroom.

The most important part about being a nanny...

My last "nanny family" had a child that I watched from 7 weeks to 11.5 months. We all became very close, like family, and spent time with each other outside of my working hours. During one of these times we all went to a small festival together. My nanny baby- G, kept holding her arms out to one of us, staying in our arms for a couple minutes, then go to another and continued rotating in between the three of us to hold her the whole time. I loved knowing that even with her parents right there she still wanted to be in my arms as well. It's a wonderful memory of all of us together!

Shadra M. - Seeking Work in Colorado Springs

Live-In Part-Time Nanny Available in Colorado Springs, CO: Shadra M.

Hi! I’m Shadra (or Shad), I’m 19 and a student at West Texas A&M University. I’ll be home for the summer and am looking to help families who need a reliable, positive babysitter!

I have a bubbly, upbeat personality and love creating a fun, safe environment where kids feel comfortable and entertained. I’ve been babysitting for years, starting with younger cousins and family friends and continuing through high school and college breaks.

I have experience with children as young as 6 months old and am comfortable caring for multiple kids (typically 1–3, up to 4). I’m used to keeping kids on routines (if needed) while also making sure they’re having fun with crafts, outdoor play, meals, and games.

I’m reliable, patient, and attentive, and I have several families who would be happy to provide references. While I’m not CPR certified, I am very safety-conscious and always prioritize the well-being of the children in my care.

I’d love to help your family this summer!
