I currently am a volunteer with the children’s youth group at my church and have been doing things much like this since I was 14 years old!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love anything hands on; By that I mean any type of arts and crafts, puzzles, board games, or any type of sport/activity outside (As a currently college athlete I’m always a fan of that one!). I am a very big advocate for hands on experience and always want to keep the kids hands and minds busy. Believe me I am always down for movies/tv or iPad time (when or if allowed) but when it’s not I’ll always been entertaining or participating in activities and games! I love being able to connect with any type of kid based on their personal likes. If your daughter loves makeup and hair, I will be their personal Barbie. If your son loves video games I am no newbie to Fortnite. Overall my goal is to give the kids as much room to trust and like me as much as they can!
My experience with special needs children...
I have babysat for two separate families with special needs children. One was on the spectrum but fully functional and just sometimes had a harder time controlling her emotions or reactions to certain situations. The other was a young boy who was completely immobile and unable to communicate verbally, however he was one of the sweetest and most kind kids I ever babysat for. He would just listen to me talk to him and respond with smiles or facial movements, his family is also some of the nicest people I have ever known so I have absolutely no complaints.
