More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have previously nannied for multiples families. However, much of my time has been in Early Childhood Education as a teacher. I taught in a Reggio and Montessori inspired preschool for 5 years before moving into teaching, then acting as the on site supervisor, in an Infant and Toddler program.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Overall my favorite activities with children are building based, bringing out blocks or magnatiles and seeing what we can create is wonderful. Not only are we exploring creative concepts but scientific ones as we build too. I also love a messy sensory activity as well as taking nature walks, both are great opportunities to interact with and explore the world around us in big and small ways.

My experience with special needs children...

In the past I have worked with children with motor and speech delays, having experience working with therapists and as a teacher to help children meet milestones. I also have worked with children with absent seizures. Largely however I have worked with children with Autism and ADHD. No Autistic or ADHD child is the same but I have developed a unique set of skills to understand the why behind Autistic and ADHD children's behaviors that most miss. I really love working with Autistic children, they have a very unique way of seeing the world at times, and I know finding a group setting that works for Autistic children is difficult at times.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I nannied on and off for years over the summer for a family. It was bittersweet one day when I realized the little one I nannied was now almost as tall as me and she no longer needed me to push her on the park swings we went to almost every day. Then the next summer she could touch the branch we always tried to reach for and the one after that we were clipping in hair extensions and walking around the neighborhood talking instead of going to the park "for kids." I realized I had gotten to see this little girl grow up and though things we did had changed the one thing that hadn't was that she'd still always run to the window and door to greet me.
