My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for adults mostly who are special needs but I think they are similar, I have cared for many types of developmental disabilities and I am capable of having the extra patience, empathy, and encouragement for these people.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One time I was picking up the 3 kids I used to nanny previously from school, and the oldest, told me her friend was going to need a ride tomorrow too, because they were having a sleepover. So the next day I picked up the 3 kids plus their friend and we went to 7/11 for a drink and they were cracking up in the car the whole ride there. We played in the backyard, games like volleyball, racing, and jumping on the trampoline. Since their parents were having the night out that night, they asked me to get them dinner too. We got pizza and watched movies together and I remember the friend telling the oldest that she thought she had the coolest nanny ever, and she just smiled and said I know right. It was a pure moment of happiness and it made me feel like I did the job right although it wasn't much. I grew a great bond with these kids and I was even invited to their Christmas breakfast with their family and had so much fun, I love their family and the memories I will always have.
