I grew up with my parents doing foster care so I learned early on how to take care of children. I have Volunteered in my church children's ministry and vacation bible school every year since I was about 12, I was a cheer coach for girls ages 4-15. I also did a missions trip to an orphanage in LA. I have been around kids and babies my whole life. I also took child development all four years of high school as well as volunteering in classrooms and I want to pursue a career in early childhood teaching.

I have 3 years experience working at my highschools preschool program working in two periods a day. This really taught me patience with smaller kids and how to work with them significantly better. Towards the end of highschool/right after I was a nanny for my best friends aunt who has 3 boys under the age of 5. I am looking for a full time family but I will also be willing to work around part time! I have two other jobs right now that I can change my availability based on this job but in a perfect world It would be a 9-5 job monday-friday!

Right now I am a stay at home mom to my wonderful 16 month old daughter. Prior to having her, I was a nanny for a family of 5 kids for a year and a half. I mainly took care of 3 of their children; twin boys (from birth-19 months) and preschool aged girl. Occasionally I cared for the 2 older school aged children as well. Aside from that I have over 9 years of babysitting experience for many different families, as well as 3 years of working in a childcare facility.

When I was as young as 13 years old I started to babysit young children from infancy to 8 years old. I would babysit my neighbors children and my parents friends' children. While attending college, I was a waitress and I also had field experiences volunteering at elementary and middle schools. After I graduated with a BA in psychology, I started working at the Polinsky Children's Center, a residential facility for children who have been taken out of their homes, and there I was responsible for taking care of children. I worked with children that were infants and toddlers mostly, but I also worked with ages 6-18 also. I currently have been working for the San Diego Unified school district with children that have special needs and I am currently in school to receive my Master's Degree in School Psychology.

Caring for children has been an important part of my life since the age of ten. It was ten years old that I became an official babysitter, caring for an infant. Soon I was babysitting children of all ages, from families of all sizes, and learning more with each task. In high school I volunteered through church in the childcare department and continued my babysitting business. In my first year of college, I was offered a job at the preschool and daycare center that I had attended as a child, and it was here my experience with children really got put to the test. I worked as a teacher's assistant in the early mornings and afternoon through evenings. I did everything from diaper changing to naptime stories and assistance to preparing and serving lunches and snacks. I often was responsible for a group of children in the evenings, and during those times I got to interact with children ages 2-5. I learned so much at this job. I worked there for two years, at which time I got married and relocated to Illinois. In Illinois I quickly got a position with a nursery school in the two year old classroom. I was the assistant teacher and worked full time with a group of two year olds that fluctuated in size between 8 and 16! To say it was a challenging task is an understatement but I loved every minute. I got to spend all day every day with the same group of children, enabling me to truly be an influence in their growth and development. Here I was responsible for their care all day, which included diapers and potty training, mealtimes and snack times, and peer interaction. I also compiled curriculum, which included all activities that helped in age-appropriate development. We did art projects and lesson plans and worked on small and large motor skills and speech development. It was a challenging and lesson-filled year, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed and I feel that I learned so much of what I can give to children.

Understand Nanny Responsibilities in Lakeside, CA

Before beginning the search for a nanny, it’s important to understand what you’re looking for and if a nanny is the right choice for your child care needs. In hiring a nanny, first, you should think through what responsibilities you expect your nanny to handle. With that information, you can create a profile so that nannies can reach out to you. The boundaries for nannies duties vary from family to family. In general, a nanny is responsible for making sure your children’s needs are met, including things like ensuring they have opportunities to play and be active. When tasks go beyond child care, for example, housekeeping or meal preparation, it’s good practice to communicate these expectations with your nanny before hiring them. Along with the different duties that you ask for, experience and location can impact how much you should pay your nanny.

Lakeside Nanny Interviews

Once you start connecting with prospective nannies, the next step is a nanny interview. To make things a bit easier, here’s a list of some nanny interview questions to consider asking:

  • Do you have experience being a nanny?
  • How do you handle tantrums? Can you share an experience disciplining children?
  • What sort of household tasks are you open to doing?
  • Are you open to a live in arrangement in Lakeside? Do you have experience being a live in nanny?
  • Are you open to being a nanny in a nanny share?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Are you trained in First Aid or CPR in Lakeside?
  • Do you have a driver’s license in CA? Do you own a car?
  • What salary are you seeking? Are you open to being paid through direct-deposit, pay stubs?
  • What are your expectations around over-time pay and vacation time?

During the hiring process, it’s essential to ask for references, and by asking their references questions you gain a better understanding of they will fit in your family. As you get closer to hiring a nanny, be sure to run a background check to ensure your kids are in good hands. When evaluating a prospective nanny, it’s essential to make sure you’re setting the foundation for a good relationship with your nanny. You can do this by being clear about your expectations around nanny responsibilities and compensation, and of course, by being friendly and welcoming! And of course, as you learn how to hire a nanny, Nanny Lane's nanny services are here to help you along the way.
