A little bit about me

My name is Barbara Zimmermann and I have been a nanny for five years and have raised two children of my own, ages 24 and 20. I love children and love what I do, and now that my kids are in college, I am afforded the opportunity to do what I love without worrying about my children. I love pets and have two dogs of my own. I am CPR and First Aid certified. I enjoy educational play with kids including helping them with their colors, numbers, and the alphabet. I also love to play just for fun, games such as Hide and Seek. Also, turning on music and just dancing proves to be a real winner for most kids! More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Yes, I did volunteer work with children. My son was gettting ready for his Bar Mitzvah and had to do 13 hours of service so we found through a friend at temple a baseball team that played in Orange that were the Angels and made up of disabled children. These children ranged from mild austism to severe austirm, to Down Syndrome and wheelchair bound. I came and helped out by warming up with the kids, I would be in the batter's circle and help with gettting helmets and bats for them. Then when they made it back home I would help them with taking their helmets off, getting the bat put away and finding their glove and Angel hat. My son ended up coming back for another season and I stayed for three seasons.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy educational play with children, which includes reading and helping them with their colors, numbers, shapes and the alphabet either using flashcards or their toys (which have colors, shapes, etc.). I love to participate in coloring, painting and sidewalk chalk with them. I also adore playing just for fun, games such as Hide and Seek, puzzles and board games. Turning on fun music and just dancing proves to be a real winner for most kids as well! If we are outside, I enjoy Frisbee, kickball and going for long walks.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part about being a nanny is safety. I'm constantly making sure the kids are safe even while we are having fun. I want the parents to come home and find their kids to be exactly as they left them in the morning, except for being able to tell them all the cool stuff we did during the day.

The most important part about being a nanny...

What I like most about babysitting is when a child discovers something for the very first time. They can discover that they recognize what certain colors or letters are or they learn how to play a game. It can be anything. It’s that discovery and the pure joy and happiness it brings them. And let’s not forget the smile you get to see when they have accomplished this goal. That is priceless!
