A little bit about me

Hello! My name is Berlynn and I am 24y/o. I am graduating this May with my bachelors in Child Development and Family Science with a primary focus in Child Life. I have years of experience with nannying and also in daycare settings.
I believe children learn best through play which is why I prefer to incorporate hands on activities that are child driven throughout our day. I do this best by actively listening to the child’s interests and incorporating these into our daily activities. My personal preference is to let the kids have little to no screen time throughout our days, except for the occasional sick/rainy days.
I am open to care for any age and am good with pets!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

•walks/bike rides (puddle splashing on rainy days)
•swimming/sprinkler/slip and slides
•painting/coloring
•play initiated by the child’s interest (for ex. child likes bugs, we may then go on a scavenger hunt or bug search in the yard OR child’s favorite veggie is tomatos, so we decide to plant some seeds to learn how they grow and grow our own to try!)

The most important part about being a nanny...

forming a bond with the kids. I’m not trying to be their favorite person in the world but I do want them to know that I will care for them as if they were my own. I have an open door policy with all the kids that I watch and I form that trust with them so that they know they can come to me for anything (and that I won’t share what they say unless it is harmful to themselves or someone else). The most important part about being a nanny is that the kids know that you care about them.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for one family who has had a child with high functioning autism and was nonverbal.

The most important part about being a nanny...

When caring for one of my families with twins, one of them was very interested in bugs at the time so I gave him a jar so that he could make a home for the bugs he found and we would release them later! I was expecting there to be just Rollie Pollies, but to my surprise he came back with 3 Rollie Pollies, 1 grass hopper, 2 Assassin bugs, and lastly 1 honey bee. I’m still not sure how he did it (especially since the bee was caught last) but this is still the funniest/wildest nanny day I’ve experienced this far!
