More About Me
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
When I was younger, I remember my first nanny teaching my how to paint with a marble. We would cover it in paint and roll it across paper. It would create intricate designs and patterns which I loved. I love to paint with children now and listen to them explain what they made and why. I feel that letting your children express their creativity through art is incredibly important. It creates a coping skill to return back to when needed and and is an incredible way to de-stress.
I typically use my piano to write my music and I love to play for children, I also love to show them early piano skills I learned as a child and help them create music of their own.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Is understanding family dynamic.
I personally have never met a family who functions identically as another. Every mother, father, child and sibling adds their own unique piece to the picture. It is important that I understand what children are used to in order to create a more comfortable environment for them. Family values, religion, hobbies spent together etc.. are all necessary to understand in order to execute my job correctly.

My experience with special needs children...
Personally, I have not had extensive experience with special needs children, because I was considered one myself.
I was almost fully deaf till around the age of 5. My doctors believed I would be deaf completely by the time I became an adult. Luckily after a successful surgery, I was able to hear clearly (which is also how I was taught ASL). However, this loss of hearing caused a delay in my social and speaking development which is mostly seen in children on the ASD spectrum. Loud noises would cause me to panic or hide. However, as I grew older my fear of many things around me began to be more controlled. I was diagnosed later with ADHD which mirrors many symptoms seen in children or adults with ASD. After extensive skills training with a therapist. I have been able to use my previous weaknesses as strengths. I’ve learned many useful coping skills like how to recover from a panic attack, grounding techniques, emotional communication and using my creativity to help.

Hi! I’m Leah, a dependable and caring nanny with a genuine love for working with children. I have experience caring for infants and young kids, and I’m especially comfortable with routines like feeding, nap schedules, playtime, and creating a calm, safe environment where kids can thrive.
