I am 22 years old and I have been working at a TK-12 school for 3 years. My favorite part about my job is building healthy relationships. I base my decisions at work off of the phrase "be the person you needed the most when you were growing up". I also follow the The Golden Rule religiously and I remind the kids to follow it as well. I build appropriate friendships with the kids while also setting boundaries, physical and verbal. I create mutual respect with the kids so in the unfortunate event of a disciplinary situation, we can handle the situations as a two people, instead of a kid and an adult. However, I do not have a problem in handling the situation differently if it needs to be an adult and a kid. I try to be a safe space for the kids if they need to talk or if they just need to take a break from being around their classmates. I have an open mind and treat every kid with kindness because you never know what someone might be going through or what day they might be having.
