I was a special education teachers aid and I discovered I really enjoyed working with children in this environment. I have developed a deep expertise in understanding diverse learning needs, sensory processing and emotional regulation. This experience is the foundation of my work as a nanny today.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I have a lot of in home experience with babies and toddlers, so the activities are normally led by baby while ensuring safety as the top priority. Some of the activities include dancing, playing on musical instruments made for the appropriate age group. Another favorite is rolling a ball back and forth and playing "boo" for what could be hours.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Coming from a Special Education background I see the most important part of being a nanny as early developmental attunement. Babies don't have words so they speak through their bodies and their breath. I focus on 'active observation' noticing their sensory needs and meeting them where they are. Wether it's rhythmic soothing or intentional floor play, I am focused on supporting their brain development by making sure they feel regulated and understand from day one.
