More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Aside from several nannying positions and countless babysitting gigs, I've worked with children in multiple capacities. I've volunteered at the Children's Museum, helped lead a workshop at Spectrum Autism Center where we did fun acting exercises combined with Shakespeare characters with the kids. My current job with the Underground Railroad involves me working with children of varying ages in a safe controlled environment, and though I am not necessarily in a "caretaking" position, my job centers around making sure the kids are safe and comfortable, and easing them into a difficult situation.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love doing outdoor activities with children when the weather allows, whether it be foraging for fun treasures in nature, going to the park to see the ducks, skipping stones at the lake; really any outdoor activity that allows kids to get in touch with nature is important to me. I also love indoor activities that allow children to be creative. In the past, I've set up indoor scavenger hunts, cooking/baking competitions, and different craft activities for children I've worked with. I'd like to be able to incorporate anything that a child has an interest in into our activities. For example, if a child is into dinosaurs we might take a trip to the museum, or set up a sandbox fossil dig, or make some dino nuggets and have a Jurassic themed movie night. I also really enjoy reading to children and working on their reading comprehension skills, or just generally helping to foster an interest in books with them.

My experience with special needs children...

I have several cousins with varying levels of autism, who I've helped care for since I was young. I love working with children of all abilities, and love finding a way to connect with children who may not find it easy to connect with others. As mentioned previously, I helped lead a workshop at Autism Spectrum Center that was extremely rewarding, and gave me an opportunity to find creative solutions to different challenges that presented.
