Relevant experience where I also cared for children includes working as an assistant preschool teacher at Christ Church Preschool with 3-and 4-year-olds, working as a private nanny for children ranging from infants to elementary school ages, and serving as an overnight camp counselor at YMCA Camp Hanes. I am also currently studying Elementary Education at NC State University, where I have gained hands-on experience working with students in kindergarten and second-grade classrooms. These experiences have helped me develop strong skills in childcare, communication, patience, and creating a safe and engaging environment for children.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing all kinds of activities with children! Some of my favorites include spending time outside, going on walks, visiting parks and playgrounds, doing arts and crafts, baking, playing games, and finding fun activities around town! I also love coming up with creative activities that allow kids to use their imaginations while learning something new. I enjoy keeping children active and engaged rather than spending time in front of screens, but I also love a good movie day every once in a while!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I believe the most important part of being a nanny is creating a safe, loving, and positive environment where children feel comfortable being themselves! I think building trust with both the children and their parents is so important because you are being trusted with someone's most important people. I always want the children I care for to feel supported, heard, and loved while also having fun and making memories! I also believe consistency, patience, and communication are huge parts of being a great nanny. At the end of the day, I want to be someone the children look forward to spending time with and someone parents can always count on!
My experience with special needs children...
I have two cousins with high support needs due to autism, and growing up with them has helped me develop a better understanding of the different needs and challenges that children with disabilities may experience. My mom is also a physical therapist who works with children with special needs, and I have had the opportunity to shadow her in that environment and learn from her experiences. Along with this, my experience in preschool and elementary school classrooms has allowed me to work with children with a variety of needs and abilities. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, flexibility, and understanding that every child is different. I truly enjoy getting to know each child individually and finding ways to help them feel comfortable, supported, and included!
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite nanny moments was this past summer when I planned a scavenger hunt for the two girls I nanny! I created clues and activities that took us all around their neighborhood and to different parks nearby. It was so much fun watching them get excited about each clue and work together to figure out where we were going next! I love coming up with creative activities that get kids outside and allow us to make fun memories together. Seeing how much they enjoyed something I had put together made it even more special!
