The most important part about being a nanny...
Number one is always saftey. Second most important I believe is connecting with the children you are working with. Learning their interests and trying to find common ground in at least one subject can lead to having a much easier time working with that child. It will often times also make them more likely to enjoy having you around.
My experience with special needs children...
I was a peer support for people with special needs through out middle school and highschool. I worked as a behavioral technician for 4 months under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavioral Analysis, I worked with one kiddo directly every day who had ASD and other mental health conditions. During my time as a Camp Counselor and After School Program Lead I also worked with several kiddos who had ASD, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments working in child care was the week of Halloween in 2022. I wore a different costume every day for 5 days to celebrate Halloween with the kids I worked with. I got to be very creative and show the kids it's okay to look silly sometimes and have fun. It always made them laugh even if it was at me and I did not mind.
