A little bit about me

I have ten years of experience working at a local Montessori school, where I cared for children aged three months to six years. During my time at the school, I assisted in and co-led the toddler classroom, the primary classroom (ages 2.5 to 6 years), and finally, served as the lead guide in the infant environment for the last two years. I also have several years experience being a nanny for multiple families which includes overnight stays. For the past nine months, I’ve been working as a nanny, primarily for a now 11-month-old, but also assisting her four-year-old sister when she’s not at preschool. My current position is temporary and set to end mid June. Although I’m deeply saddened that my current nanny family is leaving, I’m thrilled about the prospect of meeting a family whose caregiving style aligns with the Montessori and RIE approaches.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Worked at a local montessori school for the past 10 years starting as an assistant teacher in a primary classroom (ages 2-6) and eventually leading an infant classroom (ages 3 months to 2years). I also have been a nanny for multiple families through the years and have. 6 year old son. I am certified in first aid, cpr, sids, and traumatic brain injury. I also have my montessori paraprofessional certification in infant/toddler.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

With younger infants I enjoy laying on the floor with them, playing peek a boo, singing, beading books, talking to them and being outside enjoying nature. With older children I love anything with art, sensory play, singing and dancing, I love practical life (including them in cooking and cleaning around the house as self care), playing outside, digging in the dirt, water play, and reading.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The most important part of caregiving is ensuring the child/children are safe and their primary needs (food, diaper, sleep) but also getting to know the child and creating connection is very important. During the infant stage this means learning their cries and cues so as to best meet their needs. As the child grows focusing on creating a connection so the child feels safe with their caregiver and the caregiver continues to learn about the child which helps best meet their needs both physically and emotionally. After the child feels safe and all of the primary needs are met, it’s important to allow the child to play and explore freely while being there if they need help and ensuring they are safe but also not overstepping too much so they are able to learn and feel confident with their choices. One of my favorite montessori quotes is “teach me to do it by myself”.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for children with autism and speech delays. While I have not had many children diagnosed with special needs I have cared for children with a variety of challenges and have learned there is never a one way fits all solution. I am always open to learning and doing what is in the best interest of the child. With younger infants I have experience with different feeding challenges from difficulties to taking bottles to gagging and vomiting when eating a solids but nothing the parents and I haven’t been able to overcome. I also have experience with children with food allergies, skin allergies and asthma. I am comfortable with giving inhalers to all ages.

The most important part about being a nanny...

It is impossible to choose one moment because I have a new favorite moment everyday.
One of my favorite things about caring for young children is that each day, as they grow and learn, I get to witness them discover something new or cross another milestone.
While I strive to keep the presence of technology (phones and iPads) around children to an absolute minimum, it fills me with immense joy when I’m able to capture a video or photo of those precious moments for the parents.

Abigail G. - Seeking Work in Madison

Part-Time Child Care Provider Available in Madison, WI: Abigail G.

Hello! My name is Abigail, but I prefer to go by Abby. I am currently a sophomore at UW Whitewater and I’m majoring in accounting. My plan as of now is to get a CPA certification, but I don’t know exactly what I want to do in the field. I absolutely love country music, but more specifically 90s country. I love spending time outdoors and spending time with my family and friends. I find motherhood to be such a beautiful thing, and I can’t wait to have kids of my own someday. Something that’s really important to me is my relationship with God and having faith that He has a plan for me; everything happens for a reason, in my opinion. I have experience with kids from 9 months old-7 years old, but I prefer to care for infants. I would like to work part-time since I am enrolled full-time in school, and have another part-time job. Thanks for reading!
