The most important part of being a nanny is treating every child with respect, and respecting the families' way of upbringing them. I am the type of nanny where I treat the children how I would want my children to be treated - with undivided attention from someone who loves them and cares for them as if they were their own.
Having patience, being creative and innovative, having an understanding of child development, and keeping up with knowledge on parenting styles and parenting revolutions are very important to me.

My experience with special needs children...
I worked with children in the Meredith Autism Program (MAP) 2 of my 4 years in college. I worked with autistic children from age 2 to age 6.
I also babysat my older cousin who is disabled and handicapped. She was in her 30s and I was a teen during these years.

The most important part about being a nanny...
I have so many favorite nanny moments. With the little ones, my favorite moments are being present for their firsts - first steps, first words, first solid food, etc.
With the older children, it's pick ups. There's something about the sweet toddler and young child around-the-neck hugs and the excitement they show when they see you at school pick up.
Of course, anytime a child "gets" something, or something "clicks" that we have been working on learning. They are so proud of themselves, and I am so proud of them when they reach their goals. It's so exciting and rewarding to watch and be a part of.
