I once cared for two little boys named David and Elijah. David was about 7 years old and Elijah was about 5. They were easily excitable, with bright curious eyes always thirsting for adventures. We went to the park often and we ran, we sang, we played, we danced but one day,Little Elijah tripped over his shoelaces and as usual I bent down to his level to tie them and he exclaimed "I want to do it myself!"
So I sat him down along side his brother and I taught him step by step on how to tie his shoes. After a few moments of trial and error little Elijah tied a beautiful little bow on his shoes. His eyes sparkled as he squealed "I did it"! Before we left the park, he whispered to me. Thanks for teaching me how to tie my shoe... I'll never forget this." The way his eyes lit up is forever etched in my mind and the reason why I love children so much
