I do not have professional experience with special needs, but multiple of close family members have autism/ADHD/ ODD and I have watched over all of them.

I was at my church and there was a child with autism having a breakdown. I was able to help him calm down and we talked for the next 45 min. We focused on his favorite things to do ( counting and finding places on maps), and it was very insightful.
