I am a 53 year old female living in Overland Park, KS. I have been happily married for 25 years. I graduated from the University of Kansas with an RN,BSN. I have worked as a nurse in a variety of roles, including as a school nurse. I have 2 daughters. Our 21 year old daughter attends the University of Kansas. Our 23 year old daughter was born with some special needs. Some of which include sensory processing disorder, extremely high functioning Aspergers, and seizures. I chose to become a stay at home mom after her birth, to provide her the best opportunities possible. She has been successfully attending TX A&M and is doing amazingly well! I am passionate about children and families, and have been heavily involved in philanthropy for over 20 years - advocating for children & families, holding various positions and serving on Boards, PTA treasure, and more. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a substitute nanny during college, and started babysitting at age 14. I taught nationally competitive figure skating for 10 years, some of my students started at age 3 & were 13 when I unfortunately ended this profession, due to relocating for my husbands job as an anesthesia provider. I have worked with children and families in various roles as an RN,BSN.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy providing fun learning activities, as well as other activities that foster creativity, inside and outside of the home. I was blessed to enjoy taking our daughters to places such as Deana Rose, zoos, Wonderscope, parks, as well as other outings that allow for fun, growth, creativity, and learning.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Providing for the needs of the child(ren). Each child has different needs, capabilities, modes of learning, etc. Each parent has different needs regarding what kind of care they want for their child. Learning & acknowledging the specific needs, is integral to finding & providing the best care & opportunities. I believe fair is not necessarily “everyone is provided the same thing”, but rather “everyone is provided the best possible opportunity for their needs”.

My experience with special needs children...

Our 23 year old daughter was born with sensory processing disorder and extremely high functioning Aspergers. She also has a number of physical issues, such as seizures, and subnormal ocular convergence. I was her biggest advocate and continued searching for the best healthcare providers possible. After years of OT, and minimal accommodations, while with continuously educating myself, she is doing exceptionally well, attending TX & A&M, and only family and close friends would even notice her SPD & high functioning Aspergers.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Too many to count!! I could talk your ear off about the numerous funny, innocent, things our daughters have said and done - from birth to present day.
