More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I've always volunteered to work with children, even as a child myself. Since 2005 I've volunteered in the nursery at my church. As well as several activities they've coordinated with several age groups [0-17]. I am an active member in my community offering my babysitting services in my neighborhood since 2007.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I am a no-tech kind of person. Don't get me wrong gadgets and devices can be super useful in the development to kids, but I prefer spending time with the kids and learning side by side. I am old-fashioned. I like card/board games. I like going outside and playing catch or jump-rope. Going to the park for a bit to get out and not be cooped in. I love doing arts and crafts, and I do try my hardest to be as mess free as possible. I like age-appropriate science tests and activities. Overall having a great time developing the mind. I know this sounds very age inclusive, seeing as most teens don't do this. This is where I'm more lenient on the tech, because I feel that can be used as a medium to really pull out who that kid is and their interests, and we can find something non-tech that they like based off that. I try to really take time to see what the kid likes and is interested in.
The most important part about being a nanny...
It's all about the children. To be apart of their growth and education is what makes the job feel not like a job. You are helping raise the next generation, makes you have a little pride for what you do.
My experience with special needs children...
In 2003 I would volunteer daily with the special needs kids in my school. For myself it never felt like I was doing them a service or I never looked at them as anything other than the people I chose to spend my lunch time with, and it was awesome. I learned a lot from them and the women who cared for them as well. In 2010, I again often would visit the special needs class and I had grown up in school with them, and it was nice to have that connection with them in school, and growing up. I appreciate them for who they are. It was nice to be with people who weren't judgement the way that teenagers can be, really helped me grow my patience with those who are quick to judge.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I always love the stories I get from any kid! They are always so honest and carefree, and even if it's brutal and blunt; just the fact that they could come up with answers like that is so amazing to hear. I just love watching them develop into their own. It's a lovely thing, and me being the very nurturing and caring person I am it's satisfying in knowing you are apart of that.
