The most important part about being a nanny...
There's so many... being part of a loving, supportive relationship to someone pretty fresh to the world. Showing them how cool and beautiful life is, and how to be alive in it all.
My experience with special needs children...
I have 5 years of experience with foster, adopted, and kinship youth. A few months of this was ages 4-12, and the rest has been with the teens. I provide trauma informed care to kiddos seeking extra support and attention, and who have an array of mental and behavioral challenges.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I have so many favorite nanny moments... I remember when one of the girls I nanny was around two, and she was gaining autonomy in picking out her own clothes. I chose an outfit for her, and she rejected it saying she needed something with pockets. I laughed and found an outfit with pockets for her, to which she jumped up and down and screamed out of excitement: "POCKETS!!!!!"
Bonus fav moment... when one of the girls I nanny was 5 we went on a trip to TCBY. By the time we pulled up, she said, "I'm so happy that I'm pulling my hair and scratching my face and crying!" To which I looked back and saw she was indeed, pulling her hair, scratching her face, and crying from excitement.
