With only a few months left in El Paso, Cristina went above and beyond in every way. Her dedication, care, and work ethic stood out immediately. We recognized her efforts by giving her bonuses and increasing her pay to $25 per hour, but more importantly, she became like family to us. One sunny afternoon, while the leaves were falling, little Emma and I decided to do some leaf rubbings. We grabbed some paper and crayons, and soon, we had a bunch of colorful leaf patterns.
Out of nowhere, Emma pointed to one and yelled, "Look, Nanny! This one looks like a dragon!" We spent the next hour making up stories about a dragon that lived in the leaves and its adventures with a brave girl named Emma.
By the end of the day, we had a whole bunch of dragon stories and leaf rubbings. Emma's excitement was contagious, and it reminded me how magical a child's imagination can be.
