A little bit about me

I'm a mother of two girls, 8 and 4. I enjoy gardening, water painting, crocheting, reading and writing, playing and studying chess, and playing D&D with my friends. I have cared for children throughout my life, since elementary school. I truly believe childcare is my life's calling!

I am enthusiastic about shaping young minds; I will not simply be there to just watch your children. I focus on mindful play, learning, reading, singing, art & sensory, imaginative exploration, and emotion management. My approach is most akin to Montessori. Children should each learn at their own pace and in the best way for them individually.

My desire is to find a family (or multiple for nanny share) in need of a full-time, longterm nanny for their children. 35-40+ hours/week, 1-5 children. In need of a stable and trustworthy income for my own family, so this position needs to include an annually renewable contract. Also available for occasional babysitting on evenings and weekends (overtime applies).

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have about 1.5 years of in-center child care experience in addition to completing 1 year of Early Childhood Education, and several years of unofficial child care experience. All my life I have been babysitting siblings, nieces, nephews, and children of friends and neighbors. All together my experience with children ranges through all ages, from newborn through the teen years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Development specific play (fine/gross motor, imagination, sorting/building, etc.), age appropriate arts and crafts, gardening when in season, singing and dancing at every opportunity, reading, playing outside if it's not too hot or too cold for the little ones, and kids' yoga because they need to stretch before and after a long day of play!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Childcare is an awesome responsibility! It is a hard truth that teachers and nannies do a lot of the raising when it is full-time, especially in those earlier years when they're developing so quickly. What they learn, how well they grasp it, how confident they are, how well they manage their emotions, all of this and so much more is on the shoulders of the childcare professional the parents' entrust their children to.

My experience with special needs children...

I have in-center experience with 2 children that were special needs. I also worked closely with their therapists.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One of the special needs children I worked with was nearing 2-years-old and wasn't speaking, pulling up, crawling, or walking. Should would pull herself along the shag carpets. One day, I suggested we move her to the next class for a week to see if being around the other children her age would encourage her to try the things they could do. She had been held back out of worry that the walking children would trip over her. By the end of day 1, she was pulling up to tables. By the end of day 2, she was crawling. By the end of the week, she was moving around on her knees! Walking was still something we all knew would take time but the look of pride and excitement on her face when she was finally doing the things she had wanted to do for so long.. It was so beautiful and I will never forget that!
