Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Pretend play! I love to get children engaged in using their imagination. My favorite is printed rugs with little towns. Having little cars that drive through the towns to run errands and do various things. Teaching the children to immerse themselves in their own little town. Encouraging them to use the characters to have conversations. I also love setting up play areas outdoors to help children meet physical milestones. Soft play foam steps and ramps. Tunnels to crawl through, and different sensory stations to explore. Anything I can do to encourage learning and fun at the same time, it's a total win. Children learn through play, I take that very seriously. When I'm there, I'm encouraging your children through play. Also bubbles, music, dancing, crafts... I'm ready! ☺️
The most important part about being a nanny...
First and foremost is safety. I have your most prized possession, I take that seriously. Next, it's important that I'm making a difference in the family's life. I want to make sure that I am creating an attachment whether I'm there for 4 hours or 8 hours. I get down on the child's level and make sure they understand I'm there and on their team. Ready to make their day full of adventure while knowing they can count on me. Same with the parents, I want parents is to go to work and know that I have everything under control. My goal is to help the family achieve their goals.
My experience with special needs children...
Working at YMCA summer camp as a camp director, I was in charge of children with special needs. They were such a joy to work with. I also took a class in college called disability and society, it taught us a lot about inclusion. My best friend has a daughter who has autism and I lived with her and her children for 3 years. But I've known them for 15 years and have been a big part of their life, which includes me helping care for Karlee. I also have experience with children with cerebral palsy, one of my other friends has a daughter who has C.P.
Connecting through play is so amazing.
You find what there are absolute loves are, and what makes them tense and uncomfortable. Sensory is so huge. My job is to find what makes them the happiest, and go from there while guiding them through love, understanding and patience.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Watching children achieve milestones. One thing I've learned is if something is hard and stressful, it will change before you know it. All it takes is some guidance. When my difficult children get older and I can see them learning and listening to me... It's just absolutely amazing. I love helping children communicate and learn. We never stop communicating and learning throughout life.
